Starting preschool is an exciting milestone for both you and your child. You want a place where they can thrive, make friends, and explore the joy of learning in a safe and loving environment.

You’ll find all of that and more at First Presbyterian Academy, where we offer programs for students ages 3 to 5 at our Downtown campus and students ages 3 and 4 at our Shannon Forest campus.

Learning Environment

At First Presbyterian Academy, your child will explore new ideas, make friends, and build important skills in a joyful, Christ-centered setting. We believe in fostering curiosity and development through play and interactive activities — which helps students gain confidence and set the stage for a lifetime of learning.

Our thoughtfully designed spaces include:

  • Inviting learning centers for art, building, and imaginative play
  • Engaging outdoor areas — including a train-themed play deck at our Shannon Forest campus on Garlington Road — to encourage physical activity and curiosity
  • New, developmentally appropriate toys and furniture at our Downtown campus on West Washington Street

Educational Philosophy

At First Presbyterian Academy, we combine structured learning with engaging, hands-on activities that bring lessons to life. From exploring science concepts through sensory play to creating art inspired by Bible stories, our curriculum fosters curiosity and creativity.

We also focus on developing your child’s independent skills. Whether they’re unpacking their backpacks, hanging up their coats, or learning to manage their lunch, children at FPA grow in responsibility and readiness.

Christ-Centered Environment

Knowing and loving God is woven into every part of your child’s day. From daily Bible lessons to weekly chapel services, children experience God’s Word in ways that are meaningful and age-appropriate.

Our 3-year-olds learn about Jesus through interactive Bible storybooks, while 4-year-olds explore deeper lessons using vibrant picture cards from the ACSI curriculum. Teachers model Christlike behavior and guide children in practicing the Fruits of the Spirit—such as using gentle hands, kind words, and showing love to one another.

Parent Partnership

We value strong communication between school and home. Teachers send weekly newsletters and frequent emails to keep you informed about your child's progress and classroom activities. We warmly invite parents to participate in community events, fostering a family atmosphere where you're an integral part of your child's educational journey.

Prioritizing Safety

Your child's safety is our top priority. All staff undergo DSS background checks. Other security measures include locked exterior and interior doors, armed security guards, security cameras, and communication tools such as walkie-talkies and intercom systems to ensure a secure environment.

Academic Distinctives

How do you lay the groundwork for a child’s lifelong love of learning? At First Presbyterian Academy, we create a supportive environment where children gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need for today — and for the future.

Core Subjects

Core subjects such as Language arts, math, science, social studies, and Bible are integrated into the curriculum to create a strong foundation for your child's learning journey.

Engaging Enrichments

Each teacher creates their own daily schedule, but you can expect your child to enjoy music, art, learning centers, small group work, and more.

Character Education

From the very first day, students learn about the Fruits of the Spirit — traits like kindness, patience, and love. Daily Bible lessons and weekly chapel services provide opportunities for children to understand and live out their faith.

Dedicated Teachers

Our teachers model a biblical, grace-centered Christian life and worldview. They treat each child as their own, fostering a close-knit, family atmosphere.

Hear From a Parent

“Over the past two years, First Presbyterian Academy has become nothing short of family. The way the entire faculty and staff care about developing each child is beyond a blessing. We have seen our son learn and grow beyond what we ever could have imagined was possible in a pre-kindergarten program. The greatest joy, though, is daily hearing of biblical truths he learned that day — many times with simple yet profound perspectives we have lost as adults!”

— Jared and Carey Martin

“We have loved sending all three of our kids to FPA. Each has had a unique experience that is catered to the way THEY learn. Not only are they getting great teaching in their ABCs, the way we talk about Jesus at home is also being taught in the classroom. As a parent, that’s what we value the most.”

— Wilkes and Paige Brown

“FPA has been such a special place to watch our children grow and flourish. Our teachers and staff have made our experience everything we ever prayed it would be. FPA has been able to provide our children with an amazing academic opportunity while making us feel like family along the way. We feel so blessed to have had the privilege of raising our children in this program.”
