A Learning Environment that Inspires Curiosity and Nurtures Faith
At First Presbyterian Academy, we believe kindergarten is more than just the start of school — it’s the start of a child’s journey to discover who they are and who God created them to be. Our Christ-centered classrooms provide a nurturing environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to explore the world around them. With small class sizes and a strong sense of community, we partner with parents to ensure every child is given the tools to thrive.
Our kindergartners flourish through:
- Personalized Attention: With a student-teacher ratio of 9:1 and the support of classroom aides, teachers are able to focus on each child’s individual growth. Whether your child is strengthening early reading skills, mastering new math concepts, or building fine motor skills, they’ll receive the care and attention needed to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
- A Welcoming, Active Campus: FPA provides spaces that encourage movement, exploration, and creativity. From two recesses on the playground to quiet reading time in the courtyard, students enjoy a balanced day that blends learning with play. Special spaces like the art room, STEM lab, and multipurpose room give children opportunities to discover new interests and talents.
- Character and Faith Development: Faith is woven into every part of the day at FPA. Students grow in their understanding of God’s love through Bible lessons, worship, and catechism. Teachers model kindness, respect, and the Fruits of the Spirit, helping students develop the habits and character traits they’ll carry for life. In our classroom "friendship circles," students learn to listen, share, and build friendships, fostering a community rooted in love and Christ-like care for one another.
Is My Child Ready for Kindergarten?
Every child enters kindergarten with their own unique experiences and skills. That’s why we begin the FPA school year by introducing clear rules and routines, creating a sense of structure and security.
We take time to build a classroom community where students feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn.
Our teachers meet each child where they are through a combination of whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one instruction. We reinforce what they’ve learned in K4 or Pre-K5 while targeting specific skills to help them grow.
This intentional approach ensures that your child should be ready to step confidently into elementary school.

"When we began searching for the right school for our son, he had a significant speech delay, and we knew finding the right environment would be crucial. From the moment we met the teachers and staff at First Presbyterian Academy, we felt confident we had found something special. Even though our son was mostly non-verbal when he started, he was welcomed with open arms and made to feel right at home. The love, care, and patience shown to him have been instrumental in his progress—he's now speaking, learning, and thriving alongside his peers! With both of our sons now enrolled, we’re incredibly grateful for FPA and can’t imagine a better place for them."

"Our kindergarten journey began in 2020 when our oldest daughter started kindergarten during COVID. Finding First Presbyterian Academy was a blessing during this time, as it provided in-person learning and a supportive, faith-based community. Our daughter thrived in the small classroom environment, and the focus on education, life skills, and character development was foundational.
When our younger daughter was old enough, we enrolled her in preschool at FPA right away, where she experienced incredible growth surrounded by love and Christian witness. Bridging her into kindergarten felt natural, and she has flourished in the small classroom environment while forming meaningful connections with peers, mentors, and staff.
The sense of community at First Presbyterian Academy continues to amaze us. From the special arts programs to the dedicated office staff and student mentors, our children receive more than just a school experience—they are part of a loving and supportive community that blesses our entire family."

An Engaging Curriculum That’s Christ-Centered
You want a kindergarten program that sets the foundation for lifelong success — one that provides hands-on, active learning in a warm and welcoming environment. You’ll find that, and more, at First Presbyterian Academy.
Core subjects include:
- Math
- English Language Arts
- Science
- Social Studies
- Writing
- Bible
Kindergarteners at FPA explore concepts through hands-on projects, interactive learning centers, and small group instruction. Whether they’re practicing foundational math skills during calendar time, learning to read with the Focus on Fives curriculum, or practicing handwriting, every activity is crafted to spark curiosity and develop young minds academically, socially, and spiritually.
Technology in the Classroom
At FPA, technology is thoughtfully integrated to enhance classroom learning without replacing hands-on experiences. Teachers utilize tools like laptops and Epson projectors to display lessons, stories, and activities, bringing concepts to life in an engaging and interactive way. This balanced approach ensures students become comfortable with age-appropriate technology as a complement to their education.
A Safe Environment
Your child’s safety is our top priority at FPA. All staff undergo DSS background checks, and our campus features multiple layers of security, including locked exterior and interior doors, security cameras, armed security guards, and reliable communication tools like walkie-talkies and intercom systems.
Age-appropriate classroom and playground designs help create safe spaces where children can learn and play, while our Christ-centered focus fosters an atmosphere of love, kindness, and trust.

“I love the book, “The Colors of Us,” by Karen Katz. I love this book because it leads to a class discussion on how we are all created in God’s image. During the book, Lena goes on a walk in her neighborhood. The mom points out how everyone is unique and made up of their own colors. We even do self-portraits where we mix colors to make the color of us. I myself am made up of white, brown, yellow, and a bit of red. The students love seeing the colors mix together to create our unique colors. We discussed what colors we used that were similar and then different to create our own special color.”
